Aggressive green alarmism is spinning out of control in Germany. On the reason why, see my Germany's Vicious Green Circle ... Anyone can become the target of the witch hunt. That includes Germany's largest companies. 

As I have explained in the post mentioned above, it is owing to the generally held belief that humans are hell-bent on destroying nature in catastrophic ways that virtually any alarmist accusation, irrespective of the argument's quality and veracity, will be considered credible by the broad populace. 

Irresponsible alarm has become an all-purpose lever of supreme effectiveness. Special interests and politicians love to use the battering ram of apocalyptic threats to pave the way for their objectives. And the population cheers the witch hunters on with great passion. It makes you popular and powerful in Germany to enforce your demands by alarmist environmental accusations. The religious resonance of green charges is so strong with Germans that the presumption of their truthfulness is immediately established causing people to disregard, in fact, to reject with ire evidence to the contrary.

The mainstream political parties have completely shed their Christian conservative (CDU) and their social democratic (SPD) identities to adopt the disingenuous green style of politics, wilfully becoming dogs that are being wagged by their green tail. They are deeply entangled in the ecological-industrial complex and the political system of green corruption in Germany. Not much help to be expected from that camp.

I remember talking to a CEO in the 1990s, who told me that the only group of outsiders admitted to the special elevator in the board's building were green politicians. They were considered the most dangerous crowd skillfully fielding their tremendous power to extort money and favours by playing the green agenda — an art that politicians of other parties were still to hone at the time.

Companies have been currying favour with green extortionists for a long time, apparently for too long a time. Even the most powerful German companies are now prone to topple as green inspired activists and politicians grow accustomed to wiping the floor with the likes of VW's and Daimler's CEOs. Business leaders had failed to draw a line early enough. Later, they felt they had to give in to unrealistic green emission standards which they could only pretend to meet using manipulated software. When the fraud that politics had forced them to commit eventually blew up in their face their position had become even weaker and more dependent. To humour the green gadflies, they are now willing to put their companies on the line complying with half-baked green visions of e-mobility and the like.

Tragically, Germany is becoming a country where flimsy, false, and deceptive claims trump careful investigation and sound judgement in an increasing number of vital policy issues, and the inherent corruption is spreading into all walks of life.

Among the numerous baseless green alarms is the claim that diesel causes tens of thousands of deaths in Germany every year. The broad public is not concerned with the facts, but some of my readers might welcome references in English and German explaining the true situation, which, of course, does not justify the accusation at all.

Deutsche Zusammenfassung:

Einstweilen nur ganz kurz der Hinweis, dass der Link oben zu einem Artikel führt, an dessen Ende eine Serie von Kommentaren zu finden ist. Der siebte Kommentar, eingestellt von einem gewissen lumpi, enthält eine knappe Erklärung der tatsächlichen Umstände des Dieselskandals in Englisch. Der neunte Kommentar der Serie, eingestellt vom gleichen lumpi,  enthält einen Link auf eine lesenswerte, ausführlichere deutsche Erörterung der Hintergründe.

Zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt werde ich den englischen Text oben sinngemäß an dieser Stelle auf Deutsch wiedergeben.

So, nun komme ich dazu, die deutsche Zusammenfassung zu schreiben:

Ich erinnere mich daran, wie mir der Vorstandsvorsitzende eines deutschen Konzerns schmunzelnd erklärte, dass er unter Firmenfremden lediglich grünen Politikern das Privileg einräume, den Fahrstuhl zu benutzen, der dem Vorstand vorbehalten war. Unter allen Politikern hatte er vor ihnen den größten Respekt, da sie es meisterhaft verstanden, Firmen mit grünen Forderungen zu erpressen. Man musste sich mit ihnen gut stellen, schließlich konnten sie auch Entgegenkommen zeigen, wenn der Preis stimmte. Über Politiker, die ehrlich waren, lachte er. Nachdem die deutsche Wirtschaft ab den 1980er Jahren dazu überging in taktischer Absicht mit den Grünen ins Bett zu hüpfen, sollte sie keinen Weg mehr finden, sich ihrer Erpresser zu entledigen. Heute sind sogar die größten Konzerne des Landes hilflos gegenüber grüner Knebelung.

Zum einen haben sich inzwischen auch die anderen politischen Parteien den verschlagenen Stil grüner Politik zu eigen gemacht – in fleißiger Anwendung des Goebbels-Prinzips, wonach Angst das beste Instrument sei, die Bevölkerung gefügig zu machen. So hat die CDU ihren christlichen Konservatismus, die SPD ihr sozialdemokratisches Grundverständnis abgelegt, nur um sich in Hunde zu verwandeln, mit denen ein grüner Schwanz wedelt. Von diesen Parteien, die tief in den ökologisch-industriellen Komplex verstrickt sind, und sich munter im grünen Korruptionsmorast suhlen, ist Heilung der Missstände nicht zu erwarten.

Das Tragische am deutschen Öko-Wahn besteht darin, dass man einen Weg aus ihm nur schwer finden kann, wenn sich die ihm zugrunde liegenden quasi-religiösen Überzeugung erst einmal in den Köpfen und mehr noch tief im Unterbewusstsein der Mehrheit der Menschen festgesetzt haben. 

Der Mechanismus ist ganz einfach: Wenn man, wie die meisten Deutschen, die Annahme verinnerlicht hat, dass der Mensch böse und versessen darauf ist, die Natur zu zerstören, dann suchen Hirn und Herz unbewusst alles um uns nach Bestätigungen dieses Glaubenssatzes ab. Hysterie und Alarmismus grüner Gesinnung werden zum Schlüssel, mit dem sich die Herzen der Menschen öffnen und ihr Gemüt steuern lassen. Das gewissenhafte Prüfen der Tatsachen und kritisches Hinterfragen würden dieses Sesam-Öffne-Dich verhindern. Also wird die Bevölkerung permanent überschwemmt mit Horrorgeschichten. Je mehr dies geschieht, desto tiefer gräbt sich der grüne Glaube ins Herz ein.  Die grüne Leichtgläubigkeit der Menschen, ja ihr Verlangen nach schauerlichen Moritaten wächst und wird schließlich zu einem verlässlichen Faktor bei der (nicht nur) politischen Manipulation. In dem Maße wie das religiöse Schmachten nach apokalyptischen Horror-Storys Verbreitung findet und zum Kulturmerkmal nationaler Zugehörigkeit wird, desto geringer der Bedarf der Bevölkerung an seriösen Argumenten, Darstellungen und Analysen. Gleichzeitig sind die Anreize angebotsseitig (bei den Manipulatoren) gewaltig, grün-apokalyptische Szenarien vor den Massen auszubreiten – denn diese erzeugen leidenschaftlichen Zuspruch und bedingungslose Folgsamkeit. Außerdem wird es leichter an die überbordenden Fleischtöpfe zu kommen, die gerne bereitgestellt werden, da sie uns doch helfen sollen, den Weltuntergang abzuwenden.

Das Kernproblem Deutschlands besteht nun darin, dass grüne Vorurteile stärker geworden sind als die bewährten Filterverfahren der Vernunft. Nur so ist es erklärlich, dass rudimentäre Hypothesen wie die von der katastrophalen anthropogenen Erderwärmung oder ein in allen Dimensionen widersinnige Umbau der Gesellschaft unter der Ägide der Energiewende kaum auf ernsteren Widerstand in Deutschland stößt.

Der religiöse Reflex zersetzt den Mut zu zweifeln. Und wo dieser dennoch ruchbar wird, wird er sofort durch den sozialen Druck erstickt, der ausgeht von den Tiefüberzeugten, den Gewinnlern, den Mitläufer und denen, die um ihren Status bei den Mitmenschen, um ihren Arbeitsplatz oder um die Aussicht auf Aufträge fürchten.

Es wird sehr schwer sein, aus dieser Falle herauszukommen. 

Das moralische Immunsystem Deutschlands ist kaputt. 

Religiöses Sentiment und die einschüchternde Tyrannis der Glaubenseiferer haben das Übergewicht gewonnen über nüchterne Sachabwägungen und pluralistischen Wettbewerb. 

Das Schlüsselwort für den Niedergang des Pluralismus in Deutschland lautet politische Korrektheit. Der Begriff setzt voraus, dass eine gemeinsame Sprache und einheitliche Inhalte, die von allen geteilt werden sollen, wünschenswert sind. Er setzt ebenfalls voraus, dass es Richter über diese gleichgeschalteten Inhalte gibt - dass also, das, was wir füglich denken und sagen dürfen, uns vorgegeben wird von denen, die wissen und bestimmen, was korrekt ist. Die Menschen sind nunmehr angehalten, nein, nicht die Wahrheit zu sagen, sondern den guten Ton zu wahren, die erwünschte Litanei nachzubeten.

Wie die Faust aufs Auge passt dazu eine – an Zwingli und Calvin gemahnende – Zwangsherrschaft der Ideen, wie sie die grüne Öko-Religion anstrebt – deutlich zu erkennen an ihrer Vorliebe für endgültiges Wissen („the science is settled“), einheitliches Denken en masse („97% aller Wissenschafler unterstützen unsere Theorie“) und die Verteufelung kontroverser Diskussionen („the debate is over“).

Wenn man aber nicht mehr berechtigt ist, Einwände zu artikulieren, ohne sozialer Ächtung ausgesetzt zu werden, dann sind die rationalen und toleranten Prozesse, die den Andersdenkenden schützen, außer Kraft gesetzt. Am Drücker sind die, die am lautesten schreien, am hemmungslosesten ihre Opponenten verleumden, herabsetzen und sozial ausgrenzen. 

Die Tyrannis der Schrillen hat längst die besonnenen, auf Unabhängigkeit bestehenden Wissenschaftler und Ingenieure dieses Landes eingeholt, ebenso wie unsere Unternehmensführer – jeden, der von den Dogmen grüner Religion abzuweichen wagt.

Grüne Propagandisten erzeugen falsche Anklagen und Gruselgeschichten schneller als diese widerlegt werden können. Dies wird ihnen leicht gemacht, weil die inneren und institutionellen (Prinzipien der wissenschaftlichen Methodik, journalistische Sorgfaltspflicht) Hemmungen, leichtfertig zu argumentieren, zunehmend im Glaubensrausch, der das ganze Land seit Jahren erfasst, verloren gehen.

Wenn man dem Dieselskandal nachgeht, wie dies hier geschieht, stellt man schnell fest, dass nichts an den empörten Vorwürfen dran ist. Aber dazu muss man sich Zeit nehmen, ein wenig recherchieren. Die Eiferer und Leichtgläubigen haben es da wesentlich einfacher. Da sie naturgemäß keine Zweifel kennen, was ihren grundlegendsten Glaubenssatz betrifft, „wissen“ sie sofort von jeder anklägerischen Nachricht, dass sie zutrifft.

Ob Zeitungsente, unhaltbare Spekulation, ob verzerrte Darstellung, unwahrhaftige Collage aus dem Zusammenhang gerissener Aussagen, ob journalistische Verkürzung, fehlerhaftes wissenschaftliches Papier, ob Gerücht und dünkelhafte Umdichtung –  solange der Grundverdacht menschlicher Naturzerstörung in Schwingungen gebracht wird, ist die Wahrhaftigkeit und Qualität derartiger Einlassungen nicht mehr von Interesse. Es türmen sich Gebirge des Dünkels auf, die größtenteils aus falschem Beweismaterial bestehen. Ein Glaube wird aufrechterhalten, der der Wahrheit wenig Platz lässt.

Lassen Sie mich mit dem Hinweis schließen, dass es sich hier um einen kumulativen Prozess handelt, der den Deutschen aus den Händen geglitten ist. 

Sie können nicht mehr unterscheiden zwischen Lüge und Wahrheit.

Mit diesem Makel lebt es sich auf Dauer nicht gut.

Green alarmist lies are ravaging Germany. We are dealing with an epidemic that seems unstoppable at present. Germans sit in a religious trap; their belief in the fundamental green preconception that man is hell-bent on destroying nature to the point of apocalyptic perdition condemns them to embrace alarmist scenarios indiscriminately without any protection from scepticism, critical thinking, politically independent science or investigative journalism.

Die Deutschen sitzen in der Falle eines religiösen Wahns. Der Kern ihres Glaubensbekenntnisses besteht in der grünen Überzeugung, dass der Mensch seinem Wesen nach darauf versessen ist, die Natur bis zum Weltuntergang zu zerstören. Das Glaubensfieber sorgt dafür, dass Wissenschaft und Journalismus kaum noch politisch unabhängig sind. Der religiöse Eifer beraubt die Deutschen einer skeptischen Haltung, der Fähigkeit kritisch zu denken, und verdammt sie dazu, unweigerlich alarmistischen Szenarien aufzusitzen.

The core tenet of their green religion consisting of a view of man as evil nature killer, Germans are acutely predisposed to accept as true virtually any horror story that fits their religion's misanthropic prediction.

Da ja der grundlegendste Glaubenssatz dieser grünen Religion darin besteht, im Menschen einen bösartigen Zerstörer der Natur zu sehen, sind die Deutschen prädestiniert praktisch jeder Art von Horrorstory Glauben zu schenken, wenn in ihr nur die Verleumdung des Menschen mitschwingt, auf der diese Religion fußt.

The religious mania is beginning to do serious damage to Germany. However, there is no prospect at all of the population discarding its fatal preconception. The negative creed feeds on itself. People get a kick out of horror stories (masquerading as environmental concern) as these confirm their deepest religious feelings.

Dieser religiöse Wahn beginnt ernsthaften Schaden in Deutschland anzurichten. Aber die Aussichten sind nicht gut, dass die Bevölkerung ihre fatalen Vorurteile endlich ablegen. Das pessimistische Credo erzeugt seine eigene wachsende Nachfrage. Die Menschen empfinden einen Lustgewinn, wenn sie von Horrorstorys hören (die kaschiert werden als Ausdruck aufrichtiger Sorge um die Natur), da diese doch ihr tiefsten religiösen Empfindungen ansprechen.

I meant to write a piece on bio diesel, another case of "green" policies being outlandishly contradictory and damaging to reasonable conservationist and environmental goals. I shall submit that article in due course. But a thought occurred to me that diverts my attention for now.

There are many egregious contradictions in "green" policies. Many of these inconsistencies are not hard to detect, one would think. Yet even intelligent and educated people do not seem to be willing to stop and wonder. That's in Germany. In other countries, notably the USA, large parts of the public are still in possession of their own critical minds.

Why this inordinate gullibility and disappearance of critical thinking in Germany? The reason is surprisingly simple — here it is:

In Training the Political Consumer ... and its German version Überlegungen zur Abrichtung des politischen Konsumenten ... I noted that the broad populace is misled by a constant shower of conditioning cues to believe in a primitive and simplistic world of black and white in environmental matters.

From Christian faith and the belief in socialism a new eschatology (story of the purpose and end of the world) has emerged in Germany. Its adherents apply patterns of the Christian story, especially man's inherent sinfulness, to the relationship between man and nature, the latter figuring as the new God (Gaia). The religion's fundamental tenet is that man has an evil disposition to harm and destroy Gaia, analogous to the Christian notion of original sin. 

Anti-capitalism is the religion's other major plank which operates in tandem with the Christian patterns to rail against nature-destroying industrial society.

To the advantage of their manipulators, people are not aware that their notions of the relationship between man and nature are based on the idea that man is born to take the role of the evildoer in this relationship. 

Of course, the assumption could not be more absurd since history clearly shows that humans are extraordinarily good stewards of (a benign relationship between man and) nature, and have never been more successful at this stewardship than today.

However this reversal of the truth is key in understanding why people fail to sense the disqualifying incoherence of "green" folklore and liturgy. For what is needed to make people blind to the truth is just that belief in the new religion's assumption that man is born with a sinful disposition to do harm to nature (Gaia). 

If this conviction is held deeply enough, it is easy to tag all manner of nonsense on to it, making people readily

• believe in, 

• uncritically accept, and 

• become very committed in support of

all sorts of specific embellishments of the religious narrative that reminds us of what we want to hear, to wit, that man is doing evil to nature.

In controlling people's minds, as in contemporary Germany, where large sections of the population religiously believe in "green" fantasies and uncritically support the corresponding policies and pseudo-theories (Energiewende, catastrophic global warming), it is absolutely pivotal that mankind's purported environmental sinfulness is secured the position of an unassailable dogma in the thoughts, the emotional life and the subconsciousness of the citizenry.

If conditioning of this sort is firmly established, it is astoundingly easy to get the hapless masses to 

• apply their religious fervour to the most flimsy or absurd additional narratives, 

• suppress and oppose sensible perspectives and 

• support dangerously erroneous and irrational courses of action of even gigantic proportions and tremendous consequence.

No more is needed than to label a policy, product or a point of view as "good for nature", "ecologically friendly", "bio(logical)", "green" etc. and you can be sure of sympathy and support from the masses. They will do and think what you want them to do and think.

This goes a long way towards explaining the large number of unchallenged contradictions that characterise "green" policies. People judge the religious value of the claims and promises that come with  a popular "green" phrase attached to them. That is, they appraise its conformity or deviance from their misanthropic pantheistic creed. The "green" wording of a (marketing or political) proposition is like a password. If it is (politically/folkoristically/religiously) correct —  suggesting the matter at hand is instrumental in saving nature from man — the proposition is directly forwarded to a pigeonhole in your mind that contains the things you like. No skepticism, no questioning, no fact-checking. Yet your brain and feelings signal: You're siding with the right lot. You're part of a wonderful cause. You're a great one yourself, as far as human beings go. 

You have absorbed a complicated issue into your mind by a quick welcoming prayer, settling its nature in a very simple, emotionally satisfactory and reassuring way. It's divinely approved, as you wouldn't accept it if it weren't. All's right.

What's not to like? 

At the risk of labouring the point, I conclude: the open sesame to all kinds of manipulation and mass herding in the age of "green" cultural dominance is the belief in the peccability of man before nature. The hard thing is to get everyone to share in the conviction that man is born to be evil vis-à-vis nature, that man is bad and nature is good. Once this has been accomplished, the rest is a walk in the park for rabblerousers and seducers of the masses.

I recommend my Why Humans Are Good Stewards of Nature to appreciate that the fundamental dogma of the new green religion is scandalously mistaken, that the opposite of it is true, and that our mind's ability to resist nonsense will be restored once this is understood.

Deutsche Zusammenfassung

Mich wundert immer wieder wie groß, tief und vielfältig die Widersprüche der Energiewende und anderer „grüner“ Ideen und Projekte sind. Oft ist es gar nicht schwierig, diese Unstimmigkeiten aufzudecken. Und doch: die breite Bevölkerung, auch die Gebildeten und Fachleute scheinen nicht mehr imstande zu sein, diese Unzulänglichkeiten zu erkennen und zum Anlass zu nehmen, Einwände zu erheben. Deutschland steht gleichgeschaltet unkritisch vor einer gewaltigen Gebirgswand irrationaler Ansichten und Vorhaben – und schläft oder applaudiert.

Wie ist die Außerbetriebnahme der kritischen Vernunft eines freien Volkes zu erklären?

Ich glaube, die Erklärung ist ganz einfach. Was mir schwerer fällt, ist, zu glauben, dass dergleichen sich in einem freien Land von noch immer sehr hohem Bildungsstand und weit verbreitetem ingenieur- und naturwissenschaftlichem Wissen tatsächlich abspielen kann.

Doch nun zur einfachen Erklärung.

Sie ist insofern einfach, als der Betäubungs- und Gleichschaltungsmechanismus selbst einfach zu beschreiben ist. Wie man über die Jahrhunderte dahin kommen konnte, ist ein anderes Thema, das sicherlich weitaus vielschichtiger und schwieriger zu rekonstruieren ist.

Mit der Popularisierung des „grünen“ Denkens in Deutschland vollzieht sich der Zusammenbruch zweier Religionen, dem Christentum und dem Sozialismus, aus deren Asche der Phönix einer neuen „grünen“ Religion emporsteigt. In ihr enthalten ist der Antikapitalismus der sozialistischen Tradition und die Misanthropie der christlichen Erbsünde, die im Menschen ein von Natur aus sündiges Wesen sieht.

Das zentrale Glaubensbekenntnis der „grünen“ Religion besagt, dass der Mensch seinem Wesen nach sündig gegen den neuen Gott, d. h. gegen die Natur, gegen Gaia ist. Das Verhältnis zwischen Mensch und Natur ist immer überschattet von der gegen die Natur gerichteten Destruktivität des Menschen.

Diese Grundannahme ist widersinnig, lehrt die Geschichte der Menschheit doch das Gegenteil – dass nämlich der Mensch besonderes Geschick darin besitzt, sein Verhältnis zur Natur in zuträglicher Weise auszutarieren. Wohlgemerkt, pfleglicher Umgang mit der Natur kann nur verstanden werden als eine Beziehung, die den Bedürfnissen und Interessen des Menschen dient. Unsere Spezies war immer in der Lage, ihre Bedürfnisse und Interessen gegen eine ihr zutiefst feindliche Umwelt zu wahren, das sogar bei fortwährender Verbesserung der Lebensbedingungen. Der Zustand der Natur ist nie zu einer Bedrohung unserer Rasse geworden. Denn Naturschutz kann nur heißen, die Natur daran zu hindern, uns auszulöschen. Das ist ihr nie gelungen. Niemals hat sie sich von dem Punkt, wo ihr dies gelingen könnte, weiter entfernt als heute. Mithin hat keine Generation vor uns so sehr in Einklang mit der Natur gelebt wie wir es tun.

Die „grüne“ Religion verteilt die Rollen anders. Die Natur steht über dem moralisch verruchten Menschen. Sie hat eine eigene makellose moralische Persönlichkeit und edle, das Gute verkörpernde Interessen, denen der Mensch seine eigenen zweifelhaften Bedürfnisse zu unterwerfen hat. (Übersehen wird, das es außerhalb menschlicher Vorstellungen so etwa wie Natur nicht gibt. Niemand kann unserer Verhältnis zur Natur für uns denken. Und die Natur ist unfähig, einen eigenen Standpunkt einzunehmen.)
 

Geht es nach der „grünen“ Religion: Wenn vielleicht nicht sich selbst, soll jeder Einzelne von uns doch die Menschheit als böse und sündhaft ansehen, als schändlich unzulänglich vor einem höheren Wesen, das in Gestalt der Göttin Gaia über uns thront.

Es würde zu weit führen, die historischen Wurzeln des deutschen Pantheismus zu erörtern. Tatsache ist, dass die Deutschen ihr lang gepflegtes Christentum und die jüngere Quasi-Religion des Sozialismus zu einem apokalyptischen Pantheismus vereinigt haben. Aus dessen Sicht treibt der vom bösen Menschen betriebene, naturzerstörende Industriekapitalismus auf den Weltuntergang zu.

Der Schlüssel zur Neuauflage deutscher Verführbarkeit und Lenkbarkeit besteht darin, die Bereitschaft der Deutschen auszunutzen, sich dem Irrglauben hinzugeben, der Mensch sei seinem Wesen nach böse, d. h. sündig vor Gaia, vor der göttlichen Natur, dem schlechthin Guten. Alles, was der Mensch tut, dränge über kurz oder lang dahin, die Natur zu zerstören. Deshalb müssen die wenigen Guten unter uns die Natur vor dem Menschen retten.

Diese Grundüberzeugung ist den wenigsten, die sie teilen, in dieser Form bewusst. Das ist ja auch gut so – vom Standpunkt einer wirkungsvollen Verführung. Besinnung wäre unzweckmäßig, Automatismen sind gefragt.

Denn worauf es ankommt, wenn die Konditionierung glücken soll, ist, dass der Glaube tief sitzt, unverrückbar ist und automatisch anspringt, wenn die entsprechenden Stichworte fallen. Die Stichworte bedienen die Grundvorstellung, dass der Mensch die Natur zerstöre und diese vor ihm gerettet werden müsse. Sie verdichten sich in konditionierenden Signal-Begriffen wie „bio“, „öko“, „umweltfreundlich“ oder auch in Pawlowschen Schlagworten wie „Kohle“ oder „Atomstrom“ etc., die zur Auslösung negativer Reaktionen dienen.

Die entscheidende Frage lautet: glauben die Menschen tief und fest an das Dogma von naturzerstörenden Menschen oder nicht? Tun sie es, sind sie nahezu beliebig manipulierbar.

Offenbar tun sich die Deutschen gegenüber anderen Völkern darin hervor, dass sie in sehr hohem Maße den Glauben an die Sündhaftigkeit des Menschen vor der Natur verinnerlicht haben. Dieser Umstand erklärt, warum sie blind sind für die eklatanten Widersprüche und die Irrationalität „grüner“ Auffassungen und Projekte.

Hinzu kommen natürlich auch Angst (vor sozialer Ächtung in einem gleichgeschalteten Glaubensvolk) und Gier (die auf die enormen Staatssubventionen und Profite schielt, die sich in einer Ablass-Ökonomie einstreichen lassen).

Aber, ich glaube, ohne die religiöse Einstimmung in den oben beschriebenen „grünen“ Pantheismus würden weder Angst noch Gier ausreichen, das „grüne“ Deutschland zu schaffen, in dem wir heute leben. 

Aus eigener Erfahrung glaube ich ermessen zu können, dass die Deutschen meiner Generation (sicher auch viele Angehörige früherer Generationen) von der Wiege bis zur Bahre einer „grünen“ Gehirnwäsche ausgesetzt waren. Denn, selbst in Deutschland groß geworden, wurde ich von Kindesbeinen an mit der Hassbotschaft traktiert, auch von meinen Eltern, der Mensch zerstöre die Natur allenthalben und unentwegt, weil er eben böse sei oder vom Teufel beherrscht werde. Vom Tierfilm zum Kaffeekränzchen, vom Schulunterricht zum heute journal, das Leben eines Deutschen ist tagtäglich durchsetzt mit Einflüsterungen dieser Provenienz.

Und wenn man die Grundüberzeugungen erst einmal in sich aufgenommen hat, wird man selbst für seine Mitmenschen zum laut tönenden Megaphon aber auch zum Einflüsterer unterschwelliger Bekräftigungen dieser Religion.

So pflanzt sich die Manie fort.

der Glaubwürdigkeitsverlust der Forschung.

An nahezu allen Forschungsinstituten bemühen sich Experten, nach Leibeskräften Physik und Naturgesetze umzubiegen, um die Energiewende posterior zu rechtfertigen. Nur noch wenige unabhängige Wissenschaftler wagen es, brisante Worte öffentlich zu äußern. Kritiker werden mit brachialen Methoden mundtot gemacht. Nicht viel besser agieren Medien, die in penetranter Weise das Hohelied der Energiewende singen.

Ecology Turned Upside Down

Germany's Energiewende (energy turn towards so-called renewable sources of energy) is being advertised as ecologically exemplary. 

In truth, the Energiewende is a shocking case demonstrating how constant showering and regurgitation of conditioning cues from a religious litany enable groups who pretend to be environmentally concerned — Greens, eco-profiteers, special interests close to them, and mainstream political parties who know how to take advantage of "the opium of the people" —  to actually destroy nature systematically, while at the same time appearing like moral stars in the eyes of the public — a sad characteristic of an age when faith in a Christian God is being replaced by a pantheistic creed, the "Green" religion.

Learning from the Past?

Unfortunately, it is unlikely that prejudices so deeply rooted in a culture will be discarded any time soon.

Hence, it is to be expected that people will be taken in by a new series of "ecological" fairy tales — like the condemnation of diesel that is already looming at the horizon.

The day will come when today's zealots are going to claim that they have never been in favour of the global warming mania and Germany's new Wunderwaffe (miracle weapon), the Energiewende, if ever they shall be held accountable.

We have not yet seen any Vergangenheitsbewältigung ("learning from the past") with respect to the egregious pseudo-ecological lies — global cooling, acid rain, forest decline, see saurer Regen/Waldsterben, ozone depletion, anti-nuclear disinformation etc. — by which the Greens have managed to become the culturally prominent group that drives politics and the Zeitgeist in Germany. 

Political Consumption versus Personal Concern

In referring to deeply held convictions in the above paragraphs, I did not mean the kind of hard-won belief that gradually emerges when someone personally grapples very intensely with an issue close to his heart and immediate live concerns.

Rather what I write about is the kind of conviction that is instilled in a person by way of a training imposed on her from without. Every "normal" citizens undergoes this training. The depth of the resultant conviction is due to the intensity and tightness of the front of indoctrination that engulfs the citizen. It does not derive from  personal commitment of one's own choice or concern that in other ways is specific to an individual's life and intentions.

This is perhaps easier to appreciate when one realises that most people perceive global warming and similar issues from the vantage point of the political consumer, not as individuals with an immediate and genuine personal stake in the matter that keeps them worried and alert as it could make a serious difference to their life.

Picture this: by giving him a ring, you are suddenly in a position to assure your utterly distressed neighbour vacationing abroad that he had been misinformed about his house having burnt down and that in actual fact the fire brigade had been able to fend off the flames before they could reach his premises.

It's pretty unlikely that you will be scolded as a malicious crank by your neighbour for delivering the relieving message.

But this is exactly what happens when you tell the political consumer the happy message that global warming is no problem.

The fact of the matter is, there is not really much at stake for the enraged guy that berates you on being told that global warming is nothing to panic about.

What irritates him is that you call into question something that threatens his identity as far as it is dependent on a sense of social belonging. Also, he may enjoy collateral benefits from the conviction that you have been questioning — such as welcome occasions to blow off steam or to feel like a "good person". Should anyone ever shatter your world by suddenly claiming that your house does not legally belong to you,  you are going to move heaven and earth to make sure the daunting hypotheses is falsified.

The hypothesis according to which we are facing an imminent climate catastrophe can be fact-checked even by laymen without inordinate effort  — and the evidence is overwhelming that no such catastrophic effects are to be feared. However, few people can be bothered to take their time to investigate the issues, because they do not have a genuine stake in the matter. They are free-riding on cheap talk as an exercise in defining their social status within their peer groups, an effort rather akin to making sure you wear the right clothes by the taste of the day. (Imagine — called in to report your department's results, you turn up at your company's board meeting in a clown's dress holding up a banner that reads "Fuck Capitalism and Shit Companies like Ours!"

Strike Against a Free Society

It is worrisome that in a free society — which we still have in many respects — it is possible to bring about Gleichschaltung of such proportions, i. e. getting the majority of the population to affiliate themselves with a dogmatic set of views and condone their defence with totalitarian means (restricting free speech, gagging science, returning to a command economy etc).

Most alarming to me is that it is possible to train an intelligent people to become dumbed down (with regard to certain rather important issues), to abandon any interest in the need for critical assessment and ongoing debate and to become thoroughly bigoted at the end of the day.

However, this is inevitable when science is turned into the maid of politics as it was during the part of the Middle Ages when Galileo Galilei lived.

Bereft of openmindedness and lively discussions, politics itself is bound to get dumbed down.

Yet politics is capable of summoning enormous means of power. In this way, politics is able to extend its narrowmindedness until it permeates everything, casting the shadow of its conceit and ignorance over an entire society.

Three Guarantors of Freedom Damaged

By contrast, a free society is based on free competition, as I have shown here (in German) and here (in English),

(1) in science, 
(2) in the economy, and
(3) in politics.

Each of these sectors which are pivotal to a free society have been damaged or even suspended during the Merkel-era in Germany.

We have become a country, where scientists are afraid to publish their research results because they are not politically correct.

We have become a country where firms are forced by gagging laws and massive subsidy-bribes to pursue a path of economic irrationality inflicting long-term damage on the economy.

When the best way to make profits for a CEO intent on feathering his own nest before retiring in five years is to accept subsidies for projects that are unviable without such support, then, of course, there is a strong temptation to yield to the offer that at the time is considered politically responsible, even though it isn't, thereby collecting profits that are as fat as they are artificial and unviable.

We have become a country where the political class has been able, by the closing of ranks, to considerably weaken the prime good of democracy — opposition and dissent — and to devolve important decisions — past the people — to anonymous and unaccountable executive organs of the EU.

A Lone Voice

I shall never forget the bewildered reaction by a scientist from the University of Cambridge (UK), when I explained to him prior to my delivering a lecture at a private university in Prague, why I was firmly opposed to climate alarmism and the Energiewende.

He confessed to me being perfectly baffled. I was the first German he ever encountered taking an oppositional attitude on the issues. He almost sounded as if he had thought it impossible for a German to ever subscribe to such a critical point of view. The Germans he knew are likely to be part of the country's intellectual élite. So much for Gleichschaltung.

Faith versus Facts

Evidence is mounting that exclusive emphasis of the role of CO2 in driving the climate is untenable.

Increasingly research suggests that other factors are important, some of which being far more significant than CO2, and that there is no reason to panic.

Frequently summoned to dramatise the need for action, the precautionary principle actually supports the opposite conclusion, namely to stay away from giant projects (decarbonisation) inspired by the one-sided and simplistic hypothesis that the earth's climate is governed by a sole determinant.

Taking the precautionary principle seriously is to see that there are no good grounds supporting a coercive decarbonisation scheme to entirely rebuild the economy and society.

However, conclusions to this effect are largely ignored, especially in Germany. or else, their zealously demonised when (threatening to / they) reach the public.

With alarming effectiveness the population is kept ignorant, misinformed and trained to act as veritable parrots of Green propaganda, while scientists are intimidated and brought into line with the government's "politically correct" positions.

"Gleichschaltung" — Subjection under a Uniform Regime of Ideas and Action 

"Gleichschaltung" is the result of the systematic enactment of the (scientifically much too simple but politically usefully simple) CO2-story by

(1) the common front of all parties in this matter,

(2) the state and his institutions (e. g. indoctrination of adolescents in government run schools), as well as

(3) means of manipulating and gagging pivotal parts of the economy, whereby the power industry and other branches are brought into line with government policy by the force of the law and massive interventions in corporate balance sheets via subsidies that entrepreneurs can not refuse without getting into trouble economically, and

(4) a political class increasingly insulated from democratic control (grand coalitions, closing of ranks among the political parties, no effective opposition in Parliament, circumvention of democratic control with the aid of an anonymous and unaccountable EU-bureaucracy), and

(5) a complaint media.

All in all, a project to effect Gleichschaltung that makes one feel very uneasy in the face of Germany's past.

All the more, as the polity used to be open and socially minded with intelligent and educated citizens enjoying all the means to keep them informed and up-to-date — until politics and the state turned against this state of advanced progress.

Cultural Traditions — Auxiliary Tools for Political Training

Certain keywords from our vocabulary's chapter on "environment and environmental protection" have been occupying a special cultural status in Germany for more than 100 years.

For that reason it has been possible for some of these terms which the average citizen deeply internalises during the course of normal socialisation to implant dispositions of conceit (like the hatred of Jews) in their users.

These socially trained reflexes which are constantly reinforced in conversations and through media consumption every day shape the convictions that help us assure our social belonging.

These triggers of conceit override our willingness to perceive matters in an unprejudiced way, let alone get to the bottom of them with an unbiased mind.

Thus, it suffices to merely utter terms like "nuclear power" or "coal" and at once a consensus between the communicating springs into life telling them that what they are talking about is a wicked and ominous subject-matter.

Analogously, nothing more is required than to label products and projects as being "ecological", "bio" or "friendly to the environment" and they will meet at once with indiscriminate acceptance.

Transforming Genuine Concern for Nature into Bigoted Orthodoxy

When semantic conditioning takes over, we unlearn or fail to experience what it means to deal with real and concrete problems in the interaction between humans and nature.

We no longer confront ourselves with the intricacy of challenges arising from live contact with nature.

We fail to appreciate that the devil is in the detail.

We lose our good sense that ideal and one-size-fits-all solutions peddled by politicians are rarely effective in real life, and that, to the contrary, they are apt to do considerable damage.

We lose our flair for the need of a give and take in coming up with feasible solutions and forget that catastrophes are far more likely to turn up in the figments of political rhetoric than in real life.

We fail to remember that the best stewards are those who are intimately acquainted with the real complexity of challenges in dealing with nature, and those who have a non-trivial stake in the matter, facing real losses when things go awry — politicians are not likely to be part of that lot.

Instead we all feel called upon to judge issues that we are not acquainted with by competent familiarity and immediate personal involvement, but know of only from clichés, mantra-like patter and general convictions, whose vagueness is well masked by the endless reiteration of the same old rhetorical templates that are in everybody's mouth day in and day out.

Our commitment to nature becomes a stale prayer, we parrot recitations handed down to us from the high priests of the church of political correctness, who know full well how to manipulate us.

Our commitment is not rooted in the personal confrontation with clearly specified, concrete problems and objectives whose tricky nature we are intimately acquainted with.

We realise our detachment from reality only when it reaches out to us in our private lives with their real concerns, like when a windmill-powered plant goes up outside the window of our living room tossing shred storks into our garden, and depriving us of sleep and health. That's when private concern becomes real in our relationship with nature.

This is when we finally realise just how nonsensical it is to view the protection of nature as an end in itself, as is customary nowadays in Germany (see President von Weizsäcker's speech in this video, time mark 02:27). Suddenly you are able to grasp what is really going on, learning the hard way — what is dearest to you being at stake. You understand that nature can only be meaningfully defined with respect to human needs. That includes ethical considerations — meaning, a good relationship with nature is a relationship that respects and serves human needs. Nature is not a moral absolute towering over morally inferior man, unlike Green mythology insinuates. See also my Economics, Ecology, and Equilibrium — The Temptations of Ideology.

Sanctification Instead of True Concern for Nature

In turning commitment to nature into a religion, we are crowding out judgement derived from being in touch with nature by adherence to a vicarious and mechanical faith whose litany abridges and disfigures the true interrelationships prevailing in man's encounters with nature.

Sanctification is accompanied by ritualisation which makes us appear "pious and agreeable to God" by the standards of the new religion — see my The Rise of a New Religion from the Ashes of Two Veteranly Creeds —, but it uncouples us from the reality of interaction between man and nature.

Continued Rise in German CO2-Emissions

Die CO2-Emissionen in Deutschland steigen weiter, nachdem sie 9 Jahre lang nicht gesunken sind und das Ziel, bis 2020 eine Reduktion um 40 % zu erzielen verfehlt worden ist. Seit 1990 hat Deutschland eine CO2-Reduktion von 27,3 % erreicht, wovon der Großteil des Rückgangs nicht dem verstärkten Einsatz erneuerbarer Energieträger zu verdanken ist, sondern der schon weitgehend in den 1990er Jahren erfolgten Stilllegung emissionsintensiver Industrieunternehmen aus dem Erbe der DDR. 

Germany’s CO2 equivalent emissions revised upward for 2016. The country has barely seen any reduction in greenhouse gas emissions so far this decade but has seen its power prices skyrocket and power grid become far more unstable.

Und doch hat man erst im Dezember 2017 einen Atommeiler außer Betrieb genommen, um ihn durch CO2-emittierende Kohle- und Gastkraftwerke zu ersetzen, während die Bevölkerung aufgefordert wird, sich auf Stromausfälle vorzubereiten. Viele Industriefirmen sind in der Zwickmühle: Stromausfälle sind wirtschaftlich bedrohlich, aber wirkungsvolle Redundanzen zur zeitweiligen Selbstversorgung mit Energie sind ebenfalls unwirtschaftlich. Sofern sie nicht pleitegehen, werden viele Firmen nun ernsthaft über eine Abwanderung aus Deutschland nachdenken müssen.

And yet, the German authorities shut down a nuclear power in December 2017 and replaced it by CO2-emitting coal and gas power plants. At the same time, the government urges the population to prepare for blackouts. Many industrial firms find themselves in a double bind: blackouts are a threat to their economic viability, but installing systems that supply emergency power is equally uneconomical. If they manage to survive many of these companies will have to contemplate relocating outside of Germany.

Was an der Energiewende nicht stimmt?

Sie beruht auf Technologien, die unwirtschaftlich sind. Deswegen ist das gewaltige Projekt ohne Subventionen nicht lebensfähig. 

Zu deren Finanzierung werden Verbraucher und Steuerzahler kräftig zur Kasse gebeten, mit Ausnahme von speziell privilegierten, sprich, subventionierten Unternehmen und bestimmten Teilen der Bevölkerung – eher wohlhabende Gruppen, die es sich leisten können, die Eintrittsbarriere hoher Anfangsinvestitionen zu überwinden, die Voraussetzung für das Geschenk langfristig subventionierten Stroms sind. 

Während die Qualität der Energieversorgung rapide nachlässt, schießen die Energiepreise in die Höhe, eine disproportional starke Belastung für die wirtschaftlich Schwächeren. 

Die lebenszyklische Energiebilanz erneuerbarer Energien (von der Fertigung bis zur Entsorgung) ist negativ, will sagen: sie verbrauchen mehr Energie als sie erzeugen oder sie sind zumindest in dieser Hinsicht unwirtschaftlich – (siehe Solar Energy ...). Ebenso ist es umstritten, ob der CO2-Fußabdruck erneuerbarer Energien nicht sogar größer als der konventioneller Energieträger ist und ihre CO2-Bilanz lebenszyklisch negativ ist, d. h. sie verbrauchen (vom Abbau der für sie benötigen Ressourcen, von Fertigung und Betrieb bis zur Verschrottung) mehr CO2 als sie einsparen. 

Klar ist: trotz enormer Kosten kommt Deutschland mit der Energiewende den selbst gesetzten Zielen für die CO2-Reduktion nicht nahe. Vielmehr ist der CO2-Ausstoß in den letzten zehn Jahren leicht gestiegen. Man hat die ehrgeizigen Ziele vor Kurzem fallen gelassen und durch neuerliche Versprechungen ersetzt, die erst in ferner Zukunft eingelöst werden sollen. 

Was die Deutschen den ärmsten Ländern der Welt verbieten wollen, nämlich Wirtschaftswachstum zu entfalten, das nur mit fossilen Energieträgern möglich ist, das genehmigen sie sich selbst, ohne mit der Wimper zu zucken, wie die jüngste Ausweitung des Einsatzes von Kohle zeigt. Heuchelei und Lügen sind ein allgegenwärtiges Merkmal der Energiewende.

So ist der Großteil der CO2-Einsparungen in Deutschland keineswegs eine Errungenschaft erneuerbarer Energieträger, sondern die Folge der Stilllegung der von der DDR geerbten Braunkohlekraftwerke in den 1990er Jahren. 

Unter Aufbietung einer bemerkenswert geschlossenen Lügenkampagne der Medien über die Umstände des Reaktorunfalls von Fukushima und den Sicherheitsstatus deutscher Nuklearmeiler wurde der konsequent CO2-neutrale Energieträger Atomkraft in einem beängstigenden Akt delirierender Hexenjägerei Hals über Kopf abgestellt. Dadurch wurde die ideologisch geächtete Kohle kräftig gestärkt. Denn die Energiewende ist darauf angewiesen, konventionelle Energieträger zur Absicherung der Stromversorgung parallel zu den unzuverlässigen erneuerbaren Energieträgern zu betreiben (wie wirtschaftlich!) – allerdings so, dass die verlässlichen Energiequellen benachteiligt (sprich, an die Grenze der Unwirtschaftlichkeit gedrängt) werden, indes die bevorzugten alternativen Energien durch Subventionen künstlich am Leben erhalten werden. Es entsteht der Anschein, als seien sie das Rückgrat der Energieversorgung. Tatsächlich treiben sie Deutschland an den Rand schwerwiegender Stromausfälle.

Dieses Konglomerat aus Widersprüchen und Nachteilen zu unsinnig hohen Kosten, das wir Energiewende nennen, ließe sich jedoch mit dem Hinweis auf einen einzigen Gesichtspunkt als Makulatur vom Tisch wischen: die Wirkung der geplanten (und nicht erreichten) Ziele bei der CO2-Reduktion in Deutschland ist so gering, das man ihren minimalen Einfluss auf die Welttemperatur mathematisch zwar ausdrücken aber mit den heutigen Wetteraufzeichnungsinstrumenten nicht einmal messen kann. Das eigentliche Ziel der Energiewende, die Weltrettung wurde also von vornherein verfehlt. Das war immer schon bekannt. Aber der Fanatismus nahm schon seinen Lauf. Nach dem Motto: am deutschen Wesen soll die Welt genesen, opfert man sich in der Hoffnung, die Welt werde dem guten Beispiel Deutschlands folgen. Doch die wenigsten Länder der Welt sind reich genug, um sich eine derart kostspielige Religion zu leisten, die uns den Glauben an eine offenkundig unwirtschaftliche und technologisch verfehlte Energiewirtschaft abverlangt.

Was einst Gebot kaufmännischen und technischen Sachverstands war, gilt heutzutage jedoch breiten Teilen der Bevölkerung als boshafte Lügen, die von rechtsradikal gesonnene Kräften gestreut werden.

Es ist heute so, dass abweichende Auffassungen dieser Art politisch als Zeichen des Rechtsextremismus umgedeutet werden. Inhalte werden nicht geprüft, man verlegt sich darauf, Tabus mit emotionalem Druck, sozialer Verachtung und Ächtung durchzusetzen. 

Die Energiewende ist ein Sieg der Gefühle, nicht der Vernunft. Blinde Vorurteile verdrängen sorgfältige Urteile. 

Eine Gesellschaft, die imstande ist, diese Art von Wahrheitsabgewandtheit über lange Zeiträume und mit dem Rückhalt der breiten Bevölkerung als kulturelles Alleinstellungsmerkmal anzunehmen, scheint mir in keinem guten Zustand zu sein. Es wird einem unheimlich, wenn ein Land, dem alle Möglichkeiten der Überprüfung und der Opposition offen stehen, sich einer derartigen Gleichschaltung beflissen unterwirft.

Germany's Energiewende is fundamentally flawed. Renewable energies are neither technically and economically efficient, nor are they capable of significant CO2 reductions, let alone of the order required to fulfil ambitious targets that are purported to limit the increase of global temperatures.

The Energiewende hampers, even destroys, proven and reliable energy sources, redirecting attention and resources to renewables which are dependent on conventional backup while causing the grid to shift toward an abyss of catastrophic blackouts. 

Over their full life cycle renewables may register a both a negative energy balance (consumed energy > produced energy)  and a negative record on CO2-reductions (emitted CO2 > saved CO2); at any rate, they are not efficient in terms of theses metrics.

Germany has failed to reduce CO2 emissions over the past ten years; the country fails to attain reduction targets that it has proudly committed itself to. The bulk of CO2-reductions is not accounted for by renewables, but by the decommissioning of lignite-fired power plants on the territory if the former GDR in the 1990s.

The erratic nature of the Energiewende is apparent from the decision to shutdown nuclear plants that emit no CO2. This increased Germany's dependence on CO2 emitting coal plants, whose continued roll-out Chancellor Merkel, champion of the Energiewende, sees herself forced to defend against demands from other nations to scrap this source of energy.

Hypocrisy is rife in Germany in issues relating to the Energiewende. While Germany insists that less developed countries give up economic growth, which cannot be achieved with renewables, requiring instead large-scale fossil fuel consumption, when push comes to shove, Merkel puts the needs of economic growth in her country before climate piety.

Domestically, the inordinate cost of the Energiewende weighs disproportionately on the less well to do parts of the population. The absence of any protest in defence of the interests of the poor is another sign of the disappearance of a genuine Left in Germany. The mainstream parties are united under the umbrella of neoliberalism, giving the interests of capital preeminence over those of labour.

Many more aspects of the Energiewende can be adduced to prove its preposterousness, however one point alone is sufficient to show its absurdity.

If the targets for CO2-reductions were fully met — they have been missed by a wide margin — the impact of Germany's CO2-diet on world temperatures would still be so small as to be immeasurable by modern technologies. 

The Energiewende is much ado about nothing. 

It is a religious mania, a scheme for some to enrich themselves, a move toward a more uniform society with less control over the political class, and a thoroughly unecological attack on the laudable objectives of genuine conservationists who seek to balance the needs of man (suffering from higher prices and noxious effects of wind mills etc.), animals (millions of bats and birds being killed by  wind power stations), plants (CO2 is plant food) and the scenery (which is being turned into an industry landscape).

A society capable of making the popularly shared denial of truth over an extended period of time a distinguishing feature of the nation and its culture cannot be in good shape. 

It is eerie to observe how a people — the German people at that — with access to all means of corroboration and the ability to express opposition prefer to fall into line with a uniform view of the world held to be sacrosanct.
