Elon Musk, We Do Not Have a Problem. Just Sleep a Little More.

The infantility of the regressive left is mindblowing. Their perception of truth and reality is encaged in the confines of their faith. See my A Political Climate of Ressurrected Religiosity.

Tesla and its CEO are drowning in problems, but for Arianna Huffington the foremost issue is a little more sleep. No hint at the thousandfold substantive problems of the car maker and the hair-raising deficits, increasingly coming under criminal investigation, in Musk's professional behaviour.

Tesla, making losses for 15 years and practically a church financed by subsidies and cheap loans from government and the donations of Musk's fan girls and fan boys, is a stark example of the fanatical will of the politico-religious to live in a fantasy world.

The wealth of the West has nurtured a new mysticism; people are rich enough to make huge mistakes, shun critical thinking and rational corroboration for a joy ride through fairyland.

Strictly speaking, Huffington is urging Musk to adopt a different, less overworking life-style - thus advocating not just more sleep.

But this does not affect my point.

The real problem is that people like Musk and his supporters are out of control, a problem rooted in the spreading of a political climate of resurrected religiosity.

Regard for factualness and critical corroboration are being overridden by what the tenets of their religion and the conditioned reflexes of a deep conviction lead them to assume. That makes them indifferent to reality and intolerant of their fellow beings if they do not defer to the notions and imagery of their religion. Accordingly, they have an enormous potential for radical intolerance. Once the emotional force of their faith has been alerted, they are capable of hair-raising acts of delusion and mendacity to feel safely surrounded by their beliefs.

Hit by an impulse (a conditioning cue) to assert and defend his religion, the politico-religious character loses rational self-control and compulsively (re)defines the situation he sees him in according to his faith.

Inevitably, fabrication becomes second nature to the politico-religious.
In today’s political climate of resurrected religiosity (led by the regressive left and green mythology), faith in one’s ideological preconceptions is stronger than concern for facts and respect for human beings (which the SEC's investigations, the defections at Tesla etc. are ultimately all about).

Huffington's motherly advice is soppy, trite and misses the real issues behind Tesla's reckless ride. However addressing Tesla's difficulties would require a return to the traditional values of a rational approach to life (humanism), and, thus, the abandoning of the regressive left's favourite pipe dreams.

Don't hold your breath.
